Mapping quasi - periodic oscillations from the outbursting intermediate polar GK

چکیده
We present time-resolved spectrophotometry of GK Per taken on the rise to outburst maximum, in which we detect 5000 s QPOs in the optical emission lines. We use this opportunity to provide a kinematically-resolved analysis of the phenomenon. Observations are consistent with reprocessing oo blobs of gas orbiting within the inner accretion disc, and evidence is found for the migration of the QPO source towards the compact star over orbital timescales.

GK Persei is an intermediate polar that exhibits a dwarf nova outburst approximately every 1000 days. During previous outbursts the system has displayed kilo-second quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) in X-ray emission. These oscillations are unique in that they are an order of magnitude longer than QPOs usually observed in disc-fed cataclysmic variables. We have detected the optical counterpart...
متن کاملTime-Resolved Photometry of GK Per during the 1996 Outburst
GK Per is a unique cataclysmic variable star which has showed a nova explosion as well as dwarf novatype outbursts, and has the intermediate-polar nature. We carried out V -band time-resolved photometry and B-band monitoring during the 1996 outburst. This outburst lasted about 60 d and is divided into three parts: the slow rise branch for 35 d, the gradual decay branch with a decay rate of 20.0...
متن کاملA Minimal Model of a Single-Reed Instrument Producing Quasi-Periodic Sounds
Single-reed instruments can produce multiphonic sounds when they generate quasi-periodic oscillations. The aim of this article is to identify a minimal model of a single reedinstrument producing quasi-periodic oscillations. To better understand the influence of model parameters on the production of quasi-periodic regimes, the mapping between parameters and quasi-periodic regimes is explicitly i...
متن کامل57 second oscillations in Nova Centauri 1986 ( V 842 Cen )
High speed photometry in 2008 shows that the light curve of V842 Cen possesses a coherent modulation at 56.825 s, with sidebands at 56.598 s and 57.054 s. These have appeared since this nova remnant was observed in 2000 and 2002. We deduce that the dominant signal is the rotation period of the white dwarf primary and the sidebands are cause by reprocessing from a surface moving with an orbital ...
متن کاملAccretion flow behaviour during the evolution of the Quasi Periodic Oscillation Frequency of XTE J1550-564 in 1998 outburst
Low and Intermediate Frequency Quasi-Periodic Oscillations (QPOs) are thought to be due to oscillations of Comptonizing regions or hot regions embedded in Keplerian discs. Observational evidence of evolutions of QPOs would therefore be very important as they throw lights on the dynamics of the hotter region. Our aim is to find systems in which there is a well defined correlation among the frequ...
